THE STORIES THAT SILK HOLDS.
Lille Fugl unites my love for architecture and art with my fascination for the stories they hold.
I have always loved scarves. For a long time, I didn’t dare to dress in color, and I discovered that a scarf could give me a sense of freedom — I could add a touch of color whenever I felt like it and remove it when I wanted to return to something neutral. It was a simple way of expressing myself without feeling exposed.
At first, I chose simple designs — stripes or discreet patterns. Over time, I began to take an interest in illustrations and the hidden worlds within them. I was drawn to the idea that, when unfolding a scarf, a drawing appeared — one that only I knew, like a small personal secret.
When I started this project, I realized that this gesture — opening a scarf and discovering a story — could become a way to communicate something deeper. The illustrations could convey emotions, evoke memories, or create a connection with a place.
As an architect, I learned that design is also a way of telling stories. What began as a fascination with space and detail evolved into an artistic expression that allows me to capture the essence of architecture and translate it into works with their own narrative.
I chose silk because, beyond its beauty and refinement, it carries a powerful symbolic meaning. It recalls the ancient trade routes that connected China with the Mediterranean for more than fifteen hundred years, beginning around 130 B.C. In that exchange of cultures, ideas, and craftsmanship, I found a way to connect with my own universe — the desire to create pieces that unite stories and speak, quietly, through material and time.
The name Lille Fugl is a tribute to my two children, who are my constant source of inspiration. They represent the essence of what I want to express: curiosity, beauty in simplicity, and a deep connection with the small wonders of life.
Each design begins with an illustration inspired by Danish architecture, capturing a scene or a moment from its history. From the dragons guarding the historic Børsen to the birds soaring over Copenhagen’s rooftops, every scarf has a story to tell.
